Learning to Love Being Active

Learning to Love Being Active

Learning to love being active

Being active and doing exercise is something that many people enjoy and include into their lifestyle. For others, not so much. It is important to remain active and stay healthy, exercise helps reduce risk of conditions such as diabetes and heart disease and is linked to improving mental health and cognitive function.

If you are struggling to find the motivation to go for a run or visit the gym, below are some steps that may help you learn to love being active.

  1. Find time

One of the most difficult things about exercising and being active is finding time to fit it into busy schedules. Your aim for physical activity should be 30 minutes each day. That doesn’t have to be 30 minutes in one session, it could be two 15 minute sessions or three 10 minutes sessions.

  1. Do what you actually enjoy

When it comes to exercise, do something that makes you feel good. There are countless ways to work out and stay active, doing something that you dread reduces the chances of you sticking to it.

  1. Take it slow

If you are a beginner in the gym or going for a run, or are just getting back into working out, take it slow and don’t rush into it. There is nothing worse than going too hard on your first day to then be sore for the rest of the week. Take it easy at the beginning with short sessions and weights, you can gradually increase these over time to prevent injury.

  1. Find or make friends

Another way to motivate yourself to exercise is by finding a friend with similar goals as yourself to help hold each other accountable and encourage each other to stay active. Making friends with people who have a lot of experience is a great way to stay motivated, they encourage you to improve yourself and grow physically.

  1. Set fitness goals

To remain consistently active, try and set some goals for yourself to improve on every few weeks or so. It’s a great way to track your progress and motivate yourself to keep pushing. This may be aiming to increase the weight you are lifting at the gym or setting a new personal best on the running track. Being able to feel a difference serves a rewarding feeling, seeing a physical difference is an added bonus.

  1. Do it with style
